Cerebrovascular Disorders Treatment

Cerebrovascular Disorder is a medical condition in which there is a temporary or permanent limit or blockage of the flow of blood to the brain. There are different reasons behind the restriction in the flow. These include Thrombosis (clot formation), Stenosis (vessels may narrow), Embolism (blockage) or Hemorrhage ( blood vessel may burst). Slurred or abnormal speech, dizziness, nausea, severe headache, numbness, weakness on one side in an arm, leg or in the face, etc. This can be diagnosed through the clinical history of the patient, through physical examination like checking the pulse of the patient at different sites to understand the flow of the blood, cerebral angiography and imaging tests like MRI or CT Scans. The treatment for the disorder also varies depending on the reason behind the restriction and severity of the condition.

Treatment
  • The treatment for the cerebrovascular disorders depends on the reason behind the restriction in the flow that may include the medication, lifestyle or rehab management and/ or surgery.
  • Medication: These include antiplatelets, blood thinners, antihypertensives, anti-diabetic medications, etc.
  • Rehab management: In this, the patient is helped to relearn the skills they have lost due to damage to their brain.
  • Surgery: This includes endovascular and vascular surgery ( to prevent future stroke).
